boricuayari asked: Hi! I wrote you before about being able to ask you questions about the auxiliares programme. I was very excited to apply until I read some things online about problems auxiliares were having. Plus, the application process is a bit daunting/confusing. I'd really love to talk to someone who is currently in the program and who went through the process already who could give me a firsthand opinion. It would really help me a lot!
Hey! Sorry for not replying the first time, I forgot all about the message so thanks for writing me again!
Yes! I would love to give you some advice about the program. There are problems like the confusing application, but seriously, if you’ve managed to get through college and understand Spanish, it is not impossible. It’s only time consuming.
The program is really relaxed. Honestly, it depends more on the individual school you are assigned to. One school I have never makes any plans and I have to make things up. The other school I have tells me in advanced what we are gonna cover so I plan in advanced.
A personal side note, as a Latina, the experience will be different. You already know Spanish way better than the other Americans coming over here so expect to play translator often. Also, terms are different (that’s something I had to learn/am still learning because I never studied Spanish from Spain). I’m going through a mini life realization about being Latina and American here in Spain. I’m still working on it to understand things better, but so far so good!
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
